UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — Columbia University had a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday for a new state-of-the-art primary care practice on the Upper West Side at Broadway and West 103rd Street.

The ceremony was attended by Councilman Mark Levine and various leadership team members from the Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the New York-Presbyterian Hospital.

The two major names in the New York healthcare world are joining forces to run the primary-care practice.

"This horrible pandemic has taught us that the profound inequality of underlying conditions has to be addressed by expanding access to primary care," Levine said in his remarks at the ribbon-cutting. "This is the way we are going to achieve greater equality of health outcomes in New York City."

"I celebrate the opening of this facility as a way to draw in new patients who may not have otherwise gotten advanced care," he added during his remarks.

The expansion into Manhattan Valley is part of Columbia Primary Care's plan to serve more communities throughout the city and Westchester County.
