Coreyah
Expertly melding ancient instruments with modern flair, the six-piece Korean band Coreyah crafts an exuberant new breed of music that breaks the barrier between the traditional and the contemporary. Rooted in Korean folklore, the members of Coreyah strive to create “living Korean music” by folding in American rock, Balkan gypsy music, Latin American dance music, African rhythms, and anything else that crosses their path. Formed in 2010, Coreyah is Dong-Kun Kim (daegeum, sogeum, tungso), Boyoung Ham (vocals), Halee Jeong (geomungo, yanggeum), Cho-Rong Kim (janggu, jing, kkwaenggwari), Sangheum Park (guitar), and Kyungyi (percussion). In 2012, Coreyah proved that traditional music could attract just as much attention as flashy pop when they reached the top 16 on the Korean music reality show Top Band II. Having toured widely in Asia, North America, and Europe, winning widespread acclaim at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Coreyah is now making its Lincoln Center debut.

Quincy Vidal
Poetry, music, and a message. With the jazz vibe that dominates their sound, Brooklyn hip-hop duo Quincy Vidal (CE and Le’Asha Julius) are the clear descendants of old-school artists like Digable Planets and A Tribe Called Quest. Their sound can also be described as one that marries the styles of the two coasts (CE is from the Bay Area and Le’Asha comes from D.C.). With a talent for lyrics that blend personal reflection and social commentary, the duo sends listeners on a colorful trek into different stories told through jazzy hip-hop.

Kaia Kater
Possessing an “exquisite, velvety voice” (Folk Radio UK), a nuanced old-time banjo style, and thought-provoking lyrics, singer-songwriter Kaia Kater finds contemporary resonance in the musical treasures of Appalachian history. Born in Quebec of mixed Afro-Caribbean ancestry, Kater now splits her time between Toronto and West Virginia, where she immerses herself in balladry and traditional dance. In her original songs, she works to incorporate her unique perspective as a person of color in roots music, traveling deep into the wilderness of the past and addressing the complex racial history of the traditions themselves.
