Man Slashes Woman Buying Metro Card Midday On UWS: Police

The NYPD is still searching for a man who used a "long knife" to slash a woman around noon at the 72nd Street subway station, police said.

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A man wielding a "long knife" slashed a woman just before noon at the Upper West Side 1,2,3 subway station on 72nd and Broadway, according to police.

The woman was buying a metro card from a machine when the man attacked from behind and stabbed her in the shoulder, a police spokesperson told Patch.

The attack was random and unprovoked, police said.

The victim got transported to St. Luke's Hospital conscious and alert. The man wielding the knife fled eastbound on 73rd Street.

Police described the slasher as 30 to 40 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches, wearing a blue shirt and blue jeans, a police spokesperson told Patch.

The NYPD is still searching for the man, but have not currently found him as of Thursday afternoon.
