Smoky Fire Pours Out Of Roof At Midtown Office Building: FDNY

Crews arrived at the Manhattan building on Tuesday morning to find flames burning in the building's roof equipment.

MIDTOWN EAST, NY — Black smoke poured across Midtown East on Tuesday morning as firefighters responded to a fire on the roof of a 28-story office building in Manhattan, New York City Fire Department officials said.

According to the FDNY, the fire broke out on the roof at 6 East 43rd Street, located between Madison Avenue and 5th Avenue, right near the kickoff of Tuesday's Saint Patrick's Day Parade.

Emergency dispatchers received the initial call regarding the blaze at 9:46 a.m.

Upon arrival, responding units identified the fire within the building's HVAC system and fire crews worked to contain the flames and prevent any potential spread to the rest of the structure, the FDNY said.

No one was injured in the fire, officials said.

While the fire itself has been extinguished, emergency operations are still underway at the site as crews continue to monitor the area, officials said.

Operations at the scene are expected to continue through the late morning as firefighters finalize their work.
