UWS Construction Site Fined $17K For Multiple Safety Violations
The Kay Waterproofing Corp was hit with a $17,250 fine for various safety violations relating to a construction site on the UWS.
UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — A construction company working on an Upper West Side building was hit with a $17,250 fine in July for a number of safety violations, the city announced Monday.
In September 2019, inspectors from the Department of Buildings visited 790 West End Avenue, which is between W. 98th and 99th Street.
At the site, inspectors found that there was no Site Safety Manager even though six workers were working on a suspended scaffolding on the 16th floor. After getting notified the safety manager eventually arrived at the site, but he did not have up-to-date logs for the worksite, according to DOB spokesperson, Lisa Wood.

Additionally, the DOB issued a violation for the unsafe use of a supported scaffolding, after inspectors found that the main bar supporting the scaffolding was not taut.
"Worker safety is not up for debate – it’s a requirement. When bad actors put their fellow New Yorkers at risk, we’ll be there to hold them accountable," Wood said. "Creating a culture of safety is our top priority, and we will not stop until every worker who steps foot on a job site can be sure they will return to their families, unharmed, at the end of the day.”
