3 Wantagh High School Kids Earn State's Highest Music Honor
The high school music phenoms were chosen among 6,000 across the state to participate in the annual Winter All-State Conference.

WANTAGH, NY —Three high school music phenoms from Wantagh were among 800 students across the state chosen to participate in the New York State School Music Association's Winter All-State Conference, considered the highest honor a school musician can achieve.
The Wantagh High School trio will perform in Rochester from Dec. 5-8, the district said in a news release.
WIlliam Hostetter was chosen for the French horn while Catherine Hanauer was chosen for the harp and Katriana Koppe was chosen as a vocalist/soprano. To qualify, they had to demonstrate proficiency at auditions in May.

More than 6,000 kids apply for the honor.
William is a member of the school's marching band, band, jazz band and wind ensemble. He also performs with Nassau-Suffolk Performing Arts in East Meadow and is a member of the Tri-M Honor Society.

Catherine is also a Tri-M Honor Society member and is a Julliard Pre-College student. She plays violin in the school's orchestra and tambourine with the chorus.
Katriana is a soprano who sings with the chorus and vocal jazz performance group and plays the violin in the school's orchestra. In addition to playing several roles in the school's musical performances, the teen also participates in local and regional theater troupes. She, too, is on the Tri-M Honor Society board.
The district congratulated the trio on their accomplishment.
