Educator Asks Hochul To 'Cease Mask Mandate Immediately'
The Seaford superintendent writes the mandate should be allowed to expire by Feb. 21.

SEAFORD, NY — Masks are expected to remain in place for everyone to wear in schools. Gov. Hochul will talk about mask mandate changes for businesses on Wednesday, but reportedly she will extend the order in schools.
Seaford Superintendent Dr. Adele Pecora sent a letter to Hochul requesting that she "cease the mask mandate immediately" or allow it to expire on Feb. 21.
Pecora and the Board of Education president wrote that the "angst and depression caused by wearing of masks continues to escalate."

The Seaford educators used the example from across the Hudson River, where Gov. Phil Murphy announced on Monday plans to end the mask order in schools next month.
"We would ask that New York follow the example set by our neighbor."

Pecora also wrote families, and posted on the district's website that the legal maneuvers and political sparring have "divided our community."
The superintendent asked the governor to communicate any anticipated changes as soon as possible.
