'Gut-Wrenching' As Second NYPD Officer Dies From Harlem Shooting
Wilbert Mora had been in critical condition since getting shot in the head Friday night.

SEAFORD, NY — The second NYPD officer shot during an ambush has died.
Officer Wilbert Mora, who was in critical condition since getting shot in the head on Friday night in Harlem, succumbed to his injuries. He was removed from life support, The New York Post reported.
The 22-year-old Mora joined the force in 2018.

"It's gut-wrenching," Town of Hempstead Councilman Chris Carini, a former NYPD officer, told Patch. "It really does feel like cops are more at risk than they ever were."
Mora's partner from the 32nd precinct, rookie officer Jason Rivera, died Friday. His funeral is on Friday at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

Moments after Rivera's death was announced, Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch asked the public to attend the funeral.
"I think it's a great idea," Carini said. "It's about time people speak up and show that the majority of our citizens support our police."
NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell called Mora "three times a hero. For choosing a life of service," she tweeted. "For sacrificing his life to protect others. For giving life even in death through organ donation. Our heads are bowed & our hearts are heavy."
