Jews To Observe Yom Kippur, Holiest Day On The Year

The sundown-to-sundown holiday is referred to as the "Day of Atonement."

WANTAGH, NY — The Jewish community observes Yom Kippur beginning at sundown. The holiest day on Hebrew calendar is called the "Day of Atonement."

The Congregation Beth Tikvah in Wantagh is holding the Kol Nidre services at 6:30 p.m.

The solemn services resume for congregants on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Yom Kippur ends the High Holy, 10-day period that started with the Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year).

Jews are required to fast for a full day as part of repentance and atonement.
