Nassau Woman Arrested For Second Time Under New Bail Laws: Police
Police say Maria Campione threw a rock through the window of a 7-Eleven. She was released without bail after a similar incident on Jan. 1.
A woman who was released from jail under the state's new bail reform laws, arrested a day later and released again, has now been arrested again, police said, for a similar crime.
According to police, Maria Campione, 20, of Franklin Avenue, Island Park, entered a 7-Eleven at 3382 Park Ave. in Wantagh at 5:50 p.m. on Monday. She took a can of beer from the refrigerated section, police said, and an employee, who had numerous interactions with her, took the beer from her and told her to leave.
After leaving the store, police say Campione picked up a rock and threw it through the front window of the store. The employee then called 911.

The officers who responded were able to located Campione and arrested her after a brief foot chase.
Campione was charged with third-degree criminal mischief.

Campione was in the Nassau County Jail for previous charges of throwing a rock through the window of a McDonald's in Lynbrook and burglarizing it. She was released on Dec. 31 as changes were made to the state's criminal justice system. She was then arrested again on Jan. 1 after police say she through a rock through the front window of an elementary school so she could run through the halls.
She is scheduled to be arranged for the latest charges in First District Court in Hempstead today.
