A Wantagh man was indicted by a grand jury on Thursday on multiple counts of surveillance after Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said that he secretly recorded at least nine women in tanning booths throughout Nassau County.

Jake Gabler-Colotti, 22, was charged with 20 counts of second-degree unlawful surveillance. He is due back in court on May 22. If convicted, he could face up to four years in prison for each incident.

“This defendant is charged with illegally filming nine women in various stages of undress while they were inside tanning booths,” Singas said. “This kind of egregious invasion of privacy can cause victims great distress and we will hold Mr. Gabler-Colotti accountable.”

According to Singas, Gabler-Colotti was a customer at the Beach Bum Tanning Salon on Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown on March 12 when a woman saw him using a camera to tape her while she was undressing in the tanning room next to his.

When police arrived at the scene, Singas said they seized the recording equipment and started investigating. According to Singas, Gabler-Colotti filmed a total of 10 videos involving nine women over a course of two years at the Levittown and Seaford Beach Bum Tanning Salon locations.

Singas said that Gabler-Colotti would hang the cameras over the short wall between tanning rooms and record videos that were two to eight minutes long. Singas said that she doesn't believed the videos were shared or streamed.

The investigation is ongoing.
