Coronavirus Canceled Boy's Birthday Party; LI Cops Surprised Him

When 5-year-old Eugene Klochkoff's birthday party was canceled, the Nassau County Police Department came to the rescue.

SEAFORD, NY — As people continue to practice social distancing to minimize the spread of the coronavirus, it has drastically changed the way people celebrate the huge milestones in life. No one knows that better than 5-year-old Eugene Klochkoff of Seaford, whose birthday party was canceled this week.

"He was very upset that he had to cancel all of his birthday plans," Rebekah Klochkoff, Eugene's mother, said in an interview to News 12 Long Island.

Determined to make sure her little boy still felt special on his big day, she reached out to the Nassau County Police Department. Because her son loves officers and hopes to be one some day, she asked if an officer could be sent to the house to surprise her son.

The police department responded, going above and beyond the Seaford mother's initial request. Rather than send one officer to surprise Eugene, a parade of officers, with their sirens blaring and lights flashing, came to wish him a happy birthday. One officer even played "Happy Birthday" on his trumpet.

"Letting them come to do this, it was really amazing," Klochkoff told the TV station.

While there were no friends to hand deliver gifts or share cake and ice cream with, in the end, you might say he received something way better, a birthday surprise he will remember for many years to come.
