November is Adopt-a-Senior Pet Month!

Pets are like fine wine... they get better with age.

Did you know that November is National Adopt-A-Senior-Pet Month? What a great way to celebrate and promote the adoption of those animals who are most often calmer, gentler and already trained! Studies show that adopting and caring for a pet can reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure, and treat depression In fact, many shelters on Long Island offer a “Senior for Senior” program that places senior pets with senior citizens, and the results have been astounding! It’s a win-win!

Our Long Island shelters are crowded with senior pets that available for adoption. At Last Hope Animal Rescue in Wantagh for example, Flanagan patiently awaits his forever home. This adorable small Shepherd mix is about 8 years young, and is in need of a foster home to recover in and get physical therapy. He was probably hit by a car and as recently had hip surgery. Flanagan is adorable and ready to a permanent part of your family. For more information on Flanagan and the wonderful dogs and cats at Last Hope, check them out on the web at http://lasthopeanimalrescue.org/ or pop in today- they’d love to see you!!

And next door at Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter, you can meet Senior dog, Addie. Addie is the best dog ever- great with all people, kids and dogs! Addie is about 10 yrs young and could quite possibly be the best snuggle-buddy ever, so head down to the TOH shelter today to meet her!

If your more of cat person, well how about a game of Checkers! Checkers is a 13 year old male who was purchased from a pet store and surrendered by his owner. Checkers is described as adorable, super sweet, a bit extra meat on his bones, and would do best as the only cat in a home. For more information about Addie, Checkers, and other great animals located at the TOH Animal Shelter, you can check them out on the web at http://www.toh.li/animal-shelter

Thanks so much for reading and please remember to always adopt- never shop! Right, Checkers?? ;)
