Paralyzed Long Islander Spreads Awareness About Spinal Cord Injuries

GLEN COVE, NY — A Long Islander is using his devastating spinal cord injury to spread awareness.

Casey Ellin, from Glen Cove, broke his neck while diving into the water at Jones Beach in 2013. He fractured three cervical vertebrae

Ellin, who is a quadriplegic, will return to the shore on Sunday for a "Roll and Run" event at Field 6.

"Hopefully, if it works out pretty well we'll plan to do this annually during Spinal Cord Awareness Month," Ellin told Patch.

Ellin is also holding the roll and run to raise for housing. A GoFundMe page has been set up to him get money.

"I've been having a very difficult time finding resources to help me find a place to live that's accessible," he said.
