Police: 13-Year-Old Riding Scooter Across Sunrise Highway Hit by Car

Boy suffered serious injuries in accident Saturday night in Freeport, police say.

A 13-year-old boy riding a scooter across Sunrise Highway in Freeport Saturday night was seriously hurt after being struck by a car, police said.

According to police, the teen was attempting to cross Sunrise at South Bayview Avenue on a foot-propelled scooter at 7:40 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound 2005 Buick.

The boy suffered head and chest injuries, police said. He was transported to a local hospital where he was admitted in serious condition, police said.

The driver of the vehicle, a 63-year-old woman, was not injured. Police said there is ”no apparent criminality” in the crash at this time. Police did not release the name of the driver or the boy who was hit.
