SEAFORD, NY — With the state making the mask mandate official in schools, the Seaford Union Free School District is following suit.

A special announcement on the school district's website states that "effective immediately... any person over the age of two must wear masks at all times indoors in pre-kindergarten through 12th-grade school buildings, regardless of vaccination status."

The mandate is specified for anyone, whether students or staff.

Delving deeper, Superintendent Adele Pecora wrote in a letter to parents on August 26 that students will be required to attend full in-person classes and social distancing is being reduced to 3 feet.

"Remote learning is not available," she wrote.

Also gone are temperature checks, the superintendent said.

Extra-curricular and sports programs will resume in the fall, she wrote in the letter.

A few procedures that started last year will remain, including general cleaning and hygiene protocols, visitor health screenings and items can be dropped off for students.

Additionally, the district is using federal funds to support students during the pandemic. They have hired two more psychologists focused on the well-being of their students and adults.
