Seaford Freshmen Get A Warm Welcome
The Class of 2022 got its first taste of high school life at this year's freshman orientation.
Seaford High School’s Class of 2022 received a warm welcome from administrators, teachers, guidance counselors and fellow students during freshmen orientation on Aug. 23.
The 184 incoming students met their buddies for the first time, as 75 juniors and seniors are serving as mentors. The upperclassmen led tours of the building, helped the ninth graders locate their scheduled classes and find and open their lockers.
“We’re trying to help them have an easy transition from middle school to high school,” said Freshmen Buddies Secretary Adrianna DelPozzo.

The mentors helped the ninth-graders get acclimated to the school by answering questions about academics, athletics, extracurricular activities, support services and more. They also shared tips on effective time management and encouraged their new peers to take advantage of the high school’s many offerings.
“High school isn’t that scary, but it’s a big change, no matter how many high school movies you watch,” added Freshmen Buddies Vice President Katie Crawford.

“The Freshmen Buddies program has become an important part of how we welcome the ninth graders to our school,” said Principal Scott Bersin. “Our junior and senior leaders get to know the younger students and serve as positive role models. They will continue to meet with their buddy groups throughout the year.”
As the new students met with their upperclass mentors, parents had a question and answer session with Bersin, and Assistant Principals Jennifer Bisulca and Nicole Schnabel. The program also included details of the new personal learning initiative, in which students will be provided with their own laptops.
