Seaford Manor Students Go Hands-On With Robots

The fifth graders got a personal introduction to high-tech machines.

From Seaford School District: Robots roamed the gymnasium of Seaford Manor Elementary School on March 14, as fifth-graders got an introduction to the high-tech machines.

Students from Seaford High School’s robotics class and club gave a demonstration for the district’s future engineers. They showed off the robot that will compete in the SBPLI First Long Island tournament from April 12-14. Manor students were also able to drive two other robots created by the high school robotics class.

“We want them to be inspired to do this one day,” said senior Lauren King, who was one of the student presenters. She and her peers discussed with the fifth-graders how robots work and the process to build them.

Manor Principal Debra Emmerich said that after the robotics students did a demonstration for elementary teachers, there was interest in having them present to the elementary students. Students in Seaford have their first hands-on experience with robotics in eighth grade in a half-year technology course at the middle school.
