SEAFORD, NY — Seaford Manor Elementary School are hoping that their recently published book, “Guide to a Better You!” can spread an important message of caring and kindness, and will continue to make the school a better place where everyone feels good about themselves, according to a news release issued by the Seaford School District.

The book's purpose is “So everyone knows it’s important to be a kind person and to be positive,” stated 5th grader Harrison Feitzinger in the release.

As part of the project, which was assigned as part of Meghan Hunt's 5th grade class, each student contributed an essay or story and a corresponding illustration about different topics, including the 16 habits of mind, character traits and mindfulness, the news release stated. Being positive, showing kindness, setting goals and friendship were among the concepts students wrote about, according to the release.

The students recognized the importance of mental well-being and wanted to create a project that could serve as a resource for themselves and others, according to Hunt. A small number of books were printed, in both soft and hardcover formats, and most of her students purchased a copy as a 5th grade memory, Hunt stated.

“This came from the kids," Hunt stated. "It was their interpretation of what we’ve been learning about self-care."
