Seaford Woman Victim Of Elder Scam: Police
The man is accused of portraying himself as the victim's jailed grandson, who claimed to need $8,000 to post bail, Nassau police say.

SEAFORD, NY — A man was taken into custody for attempting to scam an elderly woman in Seaford on Thursday.
The man, claiming to be the 73-year-old woman's grandson, said he was in jail and she should contact his lawyer, police said.
The victim received a call from an unknown man a short time later, claiming to be the grandson's lawyer and that she needed to pay $8,000 for his bail, detectives said.

There was a third call from another person, who said he was the bail bondsman and was in the area to collect the money.
Suspecting it might be a scam, the victim contacted police before the person arrived.

Joshua Estrella Gomez, 28, of Mineola, took the envelope from the woman and was immediately placed under arrest, police said.
He was charged with third-degree attempted grand larceny and released on an appearance ticket. Gomez is due in court on Feb. 3.
