Wantagh High School Welcomes New Freshmen Class: PHOTOS
New students got to tour the school, meet with administrators and learn about clubs ahead of the first day of school.
WANTAGH, NY — Incoming Wantagh High School freshman have been welcomed to their new digs.
The school held its annual orientation program Tuesday, opening its doors for the new kids on the block. Students toured the building, met with guidance counselors and found their lockers ahead of the first day of school Tuesday.
Freshmen got to hear from school administrators, learning about academic expectations for the upcoming year, as well as information on sports eligibility, conduct and guidance goals.

Carolyn Breivogel, the high school principal, welcomed the new class and explained how reputation and actions were key to their future.
"Your name is your most powerful possession," Breivogel said. "You carry the reputation of this school everywhere."

Meanwhile, James Brown, an assistant principal, talked about the importance of getting involved in the community, something many colleges look for in admissions. He warned the freshmen to think before they say or act.
"You should ask yourself is what I am going to say or do kind, right, and fair," he said.
Other education leaders talked about the importance of getting involved in extracurricular activities, and the freshmen were invited to a club fair in the courtyard. Two current student-athletes also talked about getting involved sports and the joys of being on a team.
