Wantagh Residents Approve More Than $50 Million In School Renovations

One proposition fell short that would have overhauled the school district's athletic fields.

WANTAGH, NY — Residents approved part of the bond referendum in the Wantagh School District.

Two propositions gained enough votes: A $39.5 million bond referendum that includes windows and unit ventilator replacements at the schools.

Another $14 million proposition passed for cafeteria renovations and repairs to the high school library.

However, residents said no to a $16 million proposition that would primarily overhaul the athletic fields. The vote fell short, 1139-993.

"I would like to thank our community for supporting our efforts to improve our school facilities by passing two of the three propositions contained in the bond referendum," John McNamara, superintendent of schools, said.
