Wantagh Robotics Team Takes The Win

The team went undefeated and were declared tournament champions.

WANTAGH-SEAFORD, NY - From Wantagh School District: In its second Vex Robotics “In the Zone” qualifying tournament of the school year, held in Carle Place on Jan. 27, the Wantagh High School Robotics Team went undefeated and earned the Tournament Champion Award.

On Jan. 7, the team’s robot A placed first, followed with a win with robot B on Jan. 27. The team has now qualified with both robots to compete in the Vex Robotics Southern New York State Championship Tournament, to be held on March 3 in Katonah, New York.

“What is noteworthy about the Wantagh High School Robotics Team is that we have competed in only two tournaments so far this year, and we have won both of them,” said teacher John Walsh.

During a Vex Robotics tournament, student-competitors employ science, technology, engineering and mathematics skills to design and build a robot to play against other teams of students in a game-based challenge. This year’s competition theme is “In the Zone,” and the objectives during the qualifier competitions required the teams to design and build a robot with the ability to pick up mobile goal posts, stack cones on the posts and then place the mobile posts in the field corner. An additional objective required the robot to stack cones on a stationary goal post.
