WANTAGH, NY — A legal matter has entangled the Wantagh Board of Education and the Wantagh School District.

According to a letter posted to the school district's website, a former board of education candidate has filed paperwork claiming "gross negligence and dereliction of duties" in overseeing the district's management and orchestration of the May 17, 2022 election.

Ensuring that the will of the voters "is not undermined by the action," the district and the board are "prepared to take all steps necessary" to have the election upheld.

"Unfortunately, district time and resources will continue to be diverted from our school community to address this issue," according to the Wantagh School District.
