Wantagh Senior Named National Merit Finalist
Annie Browne is in the running for the prestigious prize.

From the Wantagh School District: Wantagh High School senior Annie Browne has advanced to a finalist position in the National Merit Scholarship program. Annie will now continue alongside 15,000 chosen finalists to compete for one of 7,400 National Merit scholarships offered in March.
At this level of the competition, members of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation will evaluate the finalists’ academic records, information about the high school’s curricula and grading system, recommendations, information about activities and leadership and a personal essay.
An exemplary student, Annie is an Advanced Placement Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society, Foreign Language and Science honor societies. She is the school’s Government Organization co-president and adviser to the board of education, as well as Key Club president and a board member for the Tri-M Music Honor Society. Annie is also a Science Olympiad medalist and a recipient of the Long Island Science Congress Achievement Level Award. An athlete, Annie is a member of the varsity track and cross-country teams. She also volunteers her time teaching computer skills to adults in the Students Teaching Adults Computers program, tutoring peers and teaching religious education at St. Frances de Chantal Church in Wantagh.

Upon graduation, Annie plans on pursuing a degree in the sciences and English and is currently weighing her options with attending college at either Boston College, SUNY Binghamton or the University of Delaware.
The district congratulates Annie on this outstanding accomplishment and best wishes for further success in the competition.
