WANTAGH, NY —Best-selling author Gordon Korman recently spoke with Wantagh Middle School students about his book, “Restart,” which is about a boy who loses his memory but finds a better path in his life, according to a news release from the Wantagh School District.
After students read the book, they participated in a a mini-interview question and answer session, which was centered around Korman’s virtual visit and examined a variety of research sources for for background on the author and they used additional resources to learn how to write strong interview questions.
Julie Rosslee, director of language arts/reading/libraries and world language at the school, said the “Restart” was chosen for its strong message and has served as an anchor text for teachers to model different elements of reading and writing, which supports the Reading and Writing Workshop model incorporated into 6th grade classes. “The message of the book is that even if a person makes mistakes in the past, the individual has the opportunity to change his or her ways going forward,” Ms. Rosslee stated in the release.
