2 Wash Heights ZIP Codes Pass 10% COVID Rate: Where To Get Tested

With COVID-19 rates continuing to surge in Upper Manhattan. Here's where you can get tested for the virus this week.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Rates of COVID-19 are continuing to surge in Washington Heights and Inwood as two ZIP codes in the neighborhoods have now passed the 10 percent positive mark.

According to the latest available data from the city, the 10033 ZIP codes, which sits at the heart of Washington Heights, now has a 10.12 percent return for the number of COVID-19 tests coming back positive.

On the other hand, the 10034 ZIP code, which makes up the northern part of Washington Heights and most of Inwood, has a 10.52 percent positivity rate.

The two ZIP codes are the highest rates in Manhattan, and the two other ZIP codes that make up Inwood and Washington Heights are the third and fourth highest in the borough.

What makes the figures even more troubling is the jump that has taken place just in the past couple of weeks.

From Dec. 18 to Dec. 24, the positive rate of people getting tested in the 10034 ZIP code was 6.47. Compared to the most recent data, which shows Dec. 26 to Jan. 1, where 10.52 percent of the same ZIP code is now showing positive tests.

It's a jump of 4 percent in a two-week period.

NYC Health + Hospitals has set up several free testing sites this week throughout Manhattan.
