Arrest Made In Moped Shooting Outside Wash Heights Funeral Home

NYPD charged a man with murder on Tuesday after a man was shot and killed in September outside a funeral home in Washington Heights.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — On Sept. 2, two gunmen on a moped open fired and killed a man standing outside a Washington Heights funeral home, police sources told the NY Daily News.

On Tuesday, a man was arrested and charged with murder in connection to the incident.

The shooting took place at 11:05 p.m. on Sept. 2 at West 175th Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue, according to police.

NYPD charged 27-year-old Bronx resident Kristian Ares-Torres with the crime on Tuesday.

Police found the victim on Sept. 2 lying on the street outside the McGonnell Funeral Home with multiple gunshot wounds to his body. Emergency services rushed him to the Health & Hospital/Harlem, but he died a short time later, police said.

The victim was identified in the following days as 26-year-old Washington Heights resident Joshua Melendez. Melendez lived only a couple of blocks away from where the shooting took place.
