Carmen De La Rosa Announces Bid For Wash Heights City Council
Assembly Member De La Rosa announced her bid for City Council on Tuesday at La Plaza de Las Americas in Washington Heights.
UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Assembly Member Carmen De La Rosa announced her bid for City Council on Tuesday. De La Rosa made the announcement at La Plaza de Las Americas on 651 West 175th Street, not far from her lifelong home in Inwood.
De La Rosa is running for City Council District 10, which consists of Inwood, Marble Hill, and Washington Heights. Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez is currently the representative for the district, but his term ends in 2021.
"I am proud to have served our community in the State Assembly, and I'm now ready to take my leadership experience to the City Council," she said during the announcement. "We deserve a leader who has the experience and will fight alongside our community."

During her time in the Assembly, De La Rosa has fought vigorously for immigrant rights, women rights, housing rights, and equal education.
De La Rosa was born in the Dominican Republic and immigrated to Inwood when she was a child. After graduating from Fordham University, she went on to work for NYS Assembly Member Daniel O'Donnell, before eventually getting appointed as the chief of staff to Rodriguez in 2014.

In 2016, De La Rosa left that position to join the Assembly.
