City Plans Workshops For Spanish-Speaking Bodega Owners

The business seminars will include lessons on inventory, making store upgrades and staying competitive.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A city agency will hold a series of workshops for Spanish-speaking bodega owners in Washington Heights in order to "help bodega owners maximize their competitiveness as they face competitive pressures in their respective neighborhoods," a spokeswoman from the Department of Small Business Services told Patch.

The first workshop will be held June 1 at the NYC Business Solutions Washington Heights Center on West 181st Street and Saint Nicholas Avenue.

The workshop is free, but interested participants must reserve a spot. Reservations can be made by calling (646) 412-0696 or by emailing cperfit@cityharvest.org. The seminars are being conducted by SBS through a partnership with City Harvest, and Citi Community Development.

"Corner stores are an essential piece of the fabric of our neighborhoods, and this new program is designed to help them succeed," Gregg Bishop, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Small Business Services, said in a statement. "This free training will help corner store owners develop new skills and learn tricks of the trade to attract new customers and boost their bottom line."
