'Golden Girls' Cafe Soft-Opens In Washington Heights

The new cafe features decorations from "Golden Girls" star Rue McClanahan and menu items inspired by the TV show.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A "Golden Girls" themed cafe has soft-opened in Washington Heights and is working toward a full opening within the next weeks, the cafe's owner Michael LaRue told Patch.

The Rue La Rue Café, located on Broadway between West 187th and 189th streets, is now serving up breakfast and lunch, but will soon launch dinner services. A video posted to the cafe's Facebook page Monday morning showed off a bustling crowd within the cafe's memorabilia-clad walls.

LaRue declined to speak at-length with Patch because he is focusing on the cafe's official opening.

During Rue La Rue Café's soft opening the business hours are 7:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday through Sunday, Gothamist reported. The cafe's owner, Michael LaRue, was best friends with "Golden Girls" star Rue McClanahan, who portrayed Blanche Devereaux on the show, according to the report. When McClanahan died in 2010, LaRue inherited many of her personal belongings and memorabilia, which will be on display in the new cafe, according to the report.
