Besides parts of Lower Manhattan and Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood ZIP codes were on the lower end in the funds donated so far to 2021 candidates.
For comparison, the UWS's 10023 ZIP code covering the Lincoln Square area has raised $542,300, the most money for the mayor's race of any ZIP code in the five boroughs.
In terms of which candidates the donations from Upper Manhattan residents are going to, let's start with the mayor's race.
The Race For Mayor
Comptroller and Washington Heights native Scott Stringer has dominated Upper Manhattan's fundraising in the race for the city's highest office.
Stringer has raised $18,576 from residents in Upper Manhattan's four ZIP codes, with Maya Wiley in second at $6,452 funds raised and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams in third at $5,475.
No other candidate is particularly close to Adams.
Andrew Yang officially filed to run for mayor after the most recent fundraising deadline, meaning he hasn't been included in the donation game so far.
The City Council Race
No race in 2021 matters more for Upper Manhattan on a local level than the one to replace Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez.
There are eight candidates running for the position, but it's three candidates dominating the fundraising push in Upper Manhattan.
Those names are Assembly Member Carmen De La Rosa, Angela Fernandez, the former Chief of Staff for Congressman Jose Serrano, and Johanna Garcia, the Chief of Staff for Sen. Robert Jackson.
However, it is Garcia who has raised far and away the most money from residents in Upper Manhattan.
- Johanna Garcia: $29,652
- Carmen De La Rosa: $16,978
- Angela Fernandez: $16,372
Garcia has raised the second most money in Upper Manhattan of any candidate competing in the 2021 election cycle.
The Manhattan Borough President Race
It is a simple breakdown for which candidate Upper Manhattan residents are donating the most to for the Manhattan Borough President's race.
Council Member Mark Levine.
The local elected official has raised $30,016 from Inwood and Washington Heights residents so far in his bid for Manhattan Borough President. The figure makes him the most financially backed candidate in the neighborhood of any race.
