UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Johanna Garcia was endorsed on Tuesday by the Working Families Party in the race to replace Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez in Upper Manhattan.

WFP is a progressive political party founded in New York that has gained significant popularity in recent years as an alternative option from the two-party political system in the United States.

The Working Families Party describes itself as "regular people coming together across our differences to make a better future for us all."

The Upper Manhattan native and city council candidate said she was "excited" to land the endorsement.

"I am excited to have the Working Families Party part of this movement by all of us, for all of us,” Garcia said in a news release. “The WFP has been a leader in pushing bold, transformative leaders who will bring real change for our communities.

"I thank them for the work they’ve done, the leadership they’ve provided, and their support for this campaign to provide a good education for every child, protect tenants’ rights, and make sure the build back from COVID includes all of us who call Upper Manhattan home."

Garcia adds the Working Families Party endorsement to a list that already includes State Senator Alessandra Biagi, State Senator Brad Hoylman, and the Uptown Community Democrats club.

"As the city struggles to ensure a full Covid-19 recovery, New York City needs champions for working people in City Hall more urgently than ever," New York Working Families Party State Director Sochie Nnaemeka said. "From starting a successful holistic family literacy program at a Bronx public school to fighting for just and accessible childcare in Washington Heights, Johanna Garcia has proven time and again that she is that kind of champion. That's why we're proud to endorse her campaign for Council District 10."
