Man Charged With Vehicular Manslaughter After Death Of Wash. Heights Resident

A Yonkers man was arrested on charges including vehicular manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide, the NYPD said.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A Yonkers man has been arrested for allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian in Washington Heights on May 26.

The New York Police Department says Christian Saunders, 32, was arrested Tuesday on charges of vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, and operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs.

Saunders is a suspect in the death of Washington Heights resident Thomas Lake, 34, according to the NYPD.

Police and emergency services found Lake lying injured on northbound Henry Hudson Parkway at West 163rd Street on May 26 around 1:45 a.m. He was transported to NY Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and pronounced dead.

Police say Lake was hit by a vehicle while he was walking, and the vehicle's driver left the scene. NYPD did not specify if Lake was walking on the actual highway or in an area next to the roadway.
