Reme Restaurant, Washington Heights Diner, Closes
Neighborhood residents noticed the restaurant closed earlier this week.
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Popular, long-time Washington Heights diner Reme Restaurant, on the corner of West 169th Street and Broadway, has closed.
The closing was spotted by a Washington Heights resident, who posted the bad news in a neighborhood Facebook group. The resident posted a photo of Reme Restaurant's storefront, which had brown paper in the windows.
Nilda Rivera, the resident who noticed that the diner was closed, told Patch that she was sad when she noticed the restaurant was closed because her family used to eat there together.

Multiple calls to Reme Restaurant went unanswered. The restaurant was listed as "permanently closed" on Google.
Locals and restaurant regulars proclaimed the closing an "end of an era," and lamented that few long-time restaurants in the neighborhood are staying open.

"OMG that's horrible news. I have eaten there countless times for breakfast and dinner growing up as a kid and as an adult," a Facebook commenter named Ariel Biga Molina posted. "I love their comfort food and great prices. I can't believe what's happening to our neighborhood."
Reme Restaurant had been doing business in Washington Heights for at least four decades, one Facebook poster said.
