WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A prominent Upper Manhattan politician endorsed Comptroller Scott Stringer for mayor.

Congressman Adriano Espaillat announced his endorsement of Stringer on Wednesday at a joint news conference in Inwood. Espaillat's district includes Inwood and Washington Heights, and he is the first formerly undocumented immigrant to serve in Congress.

"Scott Stringer has spent his life standing up for immigrant communities, fighting for marginalized New Yorkers, and leading the way for all our working families," Espaillat said during his endorsement announcement. "I know Scott will tackle the disparities laid bare by COVID-19, and lead a recovery that ensures no one is left behind."

"We need an equitable recovery from COVID-19, which means we have to expand the circle of opportunity in New York, and live up to our tradition as a city of immigrants. There’s no stronger ally in this fight than Adriano Espaillat," Stringer said during the joint news conference.
