Uptown A Train Service a Mess Wednesday due to 'Water Condition'

Many A trains are being terminated at either 125th Street or 168th Street due to a problem at the Inwood-207 Street station.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS-INWOOD, NY — A "water condition" at the Inwood-207 Street station stalled uptown A trains running in both directions Wednesday morning.

The condition was first reported by the MTA at 8:49 a.m. and again at 10:04 a.m., so the condition has persisted for hours. To combat the issue the MTA is having some A trains terminate at the 125th Street or 168th Street stations.

The "water condition" was caused by a clogged drain and leaking pipe from a sink in the station, an MTA spokeswoman told Patch. Around 7 a.m. power on one of the tracks was shut down due to water coming dangerously close to the electrified third rail.

MTA workers pumped the water out of the station and regular A train service returned around 12:05 the MTA spokeswoman said. While crews worked to restore service shuttle busses brought commuters from the Inwood-207 Street station to the 168th Street station.

Commuters were also advised to take the 1 train as an alternative if possible.

The delays may not come as a surprise to daily A train commuters. Anyone who rode the line yesterday surely noticed slow service.
