Washington Heights Hit-And-Run Driver Arrested, Police Say

A 23-year-old man was arrested for a hit-and-run that left a 43-year-old woman in critical condition.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A driver is facing charges for hitting a woman in Washington Heights and then speeding away from the scene, police told Patch.

Edward Heredia, 23, was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operator. failure to yield to pedestrian and failure to exercise due care, police said. Heredia struck a woman crossing the street on Friday with his car and then fled the scene, police told Patch.

The woman, an unidentified 43-year-old, is still in critical condition after the hit-and-run, police told Patch.

The collision occurred around in the intersection of West 157 Street and St. Nicholas Avenue shortly before 10:30 p.m. Friday, police said. Heredia, who was driving a dark-colored Chrysler sedan, was turning left in the intersection when he struck the pedestrian, police told Patch. Heredia's last known address is located on the corner of West 157 Street and St. Nicholas Avenue, police said.

First responders found the woman lying in the street suffering from severe trauma about the head and body, police told Patch. The woman, who has not been identified, was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital in critical condition, police said.
