Washington Heights Politician Endorses Eric Adams For Mayor
Upper Manhattan Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez endorsed on Wednesday Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams for mayor.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Brooklyn Borough President and mayoral candidate Eric Adams earned an endorsement Wednesday from a prominent Upper Manhattan politician.
Council Member Ydanis Rodriguez endorsed Adams in a press conference outside the 168th Street and Broadway train station in Washington Heights.
Rodriguez cited Adam's leadership during the pandemic, and his successful work on behalf of Latino and Black New Yorkers across the five boroughs.

“Borough President Adams has been on the ground, fighting side-by-side with working people and people of color, for more than 30 years,” Rodriguez said in the Wednesday announcement. “Today we are handing out PPE and other resources to a community that has been hit hard by the pandemic—but I want all New Yorkers to know that Eric has been helping those in need day-in and day-out in communities like mine across the city since the pandemic began."
Rodriguez, who chairs the City Council Transportation Committee, also lauded Adams' push to get free MetroCards for essential working during the pandemic.

“As a leader on transportation and immigrants’ rights, and a steadfast fighter for working people and a fairer city, I am honored by Council Member Rodriguez’s support,” Adams said during the announcement press conference. “Our campaign is connecting with New Yorkers from all over this city because they want leadership at City Hall that both understands what is wrong with New York City and how to fix it. As the son of a single working mother who faced the same hardships many in Washington Heights and other working class communities are facing, I will be a mayor for them.”
Rodriguez isn't the first Upper Manhattan politician to make an endorsement for the 2021 mayoral race. Earlier in the fall, both Congressman Adriano Espaillat and Assembly Member Carmen De La Rosa endorsed Comptroller Scott Stringer in the race.
Rodriguez joins fellow Council members Lauri Cumbo, Daneek Miller, and Darma Diaz in their endorsement of Adams.
