Knicks star Carmelo Anthony gifted a brand new Kia to a 17-year-old suffering from a rare form a cancer.
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony made this Christmas a special one for the family of a Washington Heights teenager suffering from a rare form of cancer.
Before the Knicks took on the Boston Celtics on Christmas, Anthony called the Lara family — originally of Washington Heights but now living in the South Bronx — to Madison Square Garden's loading dock, ESPN reported. Waiting there for them as a brand-new Kia, a gift from the Carmelo Anthony Foundation, the Garden of Dreams Foundation and the car company, according to the report.
Anthony had met 17-year-old Jarell Lara, who suffers from Langerhans cell histiocytosis, through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, ESPN reported. Lara's cancer is in remission after 18 months of chemotherapy, according to the report.

ESPN reporter Ohm Youngmisuk was there to capture the moment:
A very Melo Christmas: Got to see Carmelo stun a needy family with a car via the Garden of Dreams foundation, Carmelo Anthony foundation and Kia. Jarell Lara, 17, suffers from a rare form of cancer called Langerhan's Cell Histiocytosis. His mother can't contain her emotions upon seeing what Melo has given them.
