Overview: is the place to go, pretty much anytime of day, if you're jonesing for sushi. It's quick, fresh and not stingy.
Decor: One does not go to Sakura House for the decor; you may as well be sitting in a Chinese takeout storefront. Random pictures are hung haphazardly on walls that sorely need painting. All food is served on landfill-clogging styroform and is eaten with plastic utensils, if you forgo the (disposable) wooden chopsticks.
The Drinks: If you want soda or tea, you're in luck. No liquor license, but there's a wine shop a few doors down.
Appetizers: A complimentary serving of cold edamame for the table was a welcome surpise. After that sushi restaurant favorites are well represented. Miso soup ($1.50), gyoza and shumai, or Japanese dumplings ($4.25); three kinds of tempura (veg, shrimp and veg, and seafood, $4.50, $5.50 and $5.95, respectively) are served hot from the fryer.
Entrees: All entrees come with rice, soup and salad and are priced as modestly as the appetizers. Teriyaki will set you back no more than $12.90. The Love Boat, a raft of sushi and sashimi that serves two, tops out at $33.50. Regular rolls and handrolls cover well-trod rice-wrapped inventions like spicy tuna and the cream cheese roll (both $4.95). Many of the rolls can be prepared "inside out" for an additional charge.
The lunch special has a dedicated following with three choices: 1. California roll, and a choice of a handroll of salmon, eel, or spicy tuna with shrimp and vegetable tempura ($7.95). 2. California roll, choice of a handroll of salmon, eel or spicy tuna ($5.95) or 3. Vegetable roll, an avocado maki and a cucumber maki ($5.95).
Also popular with locals are the party platters of sushi that range from $25 to $48, and include 40 pieces of sushi with 10 pieces of tuna; 10 pieces of fluke; 10 pieces of yellow tail; 10 pieces of salmon plus a chef's choice.
