Boy Scouts Place Flags At Graves To Honor Fallen: Photos
Despite cancellation of flag placement due to coronavirus at Calverton National Cemetery, local Boy Scouts found ways to honor the fallen.
HAMPTON BAYS, NY— Despite the disappointment expressed by Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone about national cemeteries banning flag placement on Memorial Day weekend due to coronavirus, the tradition was carried on at other graveyards countywide.
While Scouts and other volunteers were unable to pay tribute at graves within Calverton National Cemetery, Boy Scouts from Troop #483 in Hampton Bays placed flags Saturday at Good Ground Cemetery in Hampton Bays and at the Oakwood Cemetery in East Quogue, according to Scoutmaster Allen Schneider.
"Our Scouts and their families felt very strongly that what they were doing was very important," Schneider said.
