UPDATED: Fire Engulfs Westhampton Beach Condo Complex
No one hurt in blaze that destroys three-story building on Dune Road.
A massive fire ripped through a Westhampton Beach condo complex Wednesday afternoon.
Photos from the scene show the blaze, which began at about 3 p.m., engulfed multiple units of The Sandpiper at Westhampton complex located on Dune Road.
The three-story building was completely destroyed by the fire, which caused the top two floors to collapse, according to ABC News.

“Luckily the wind was offshore, so we had good visibility of the front of the structure and we set up our apparatus to combat the fire,” Westhampton Beach Fire Department Chief Bill Donneson told NBC News.
The fire appears to have started by a parked car and caused the paint on the east side building to melt and also hit a thousand gallon propane tank on the west side, according to ABC News.

Westhampton Beach Mayor Maria Moore said that the building wasn’t open for the season yet so only maintenance workers were in the area and that firefighters stopped the fire before it spread to the other buildings, according to Newsday.
The workers were preparing to reopen to tenants in May, according to NBC News.
Janice Sklarek, who owns a unit in the complex with Rob Taber, the building manager, told NBC News that when the fire broke out, they were heading back to the complex. They lost everything in the fire.
“We saw the big black smoke coming off the ocean and couldn’t get down here fast enough,” she told NBC News. “Flames were coming out of every window.”
“This is something that you think happen to other people, but when it happens to yourself, it’s just unbelievable,” she said.
No injuries were reported.
