Report: Former Hamptons Ballplayers Drafted by Atlanta Braves

Nick Ahmed and Kyle Kubitza, were selected in the Major League Baseball draft on Tuesday.

Two former players moved forward in the Atlanta Braves Major League Baseball Draft on Tuesday, according to Hamptonsbaseball.org.

Nick Ahmed, who played as a shortstop with the Westhampton Aviators, made it to the second round in the Atlanta Braves draft and Kyle Kubitza, who played as a third baseman for the Southampton Breakers, made it the third round.

Ahmed, who grew up in East Longmeadow and attends the University of Connecticut as a junior, was taken 85th overall by the Atlanta Braves, according to masslive.com.

Kubitza, a Texas State student who plays for the school’s Bobcats, was taken by the Atlanta Braves as a 115th overall pick.

According to Newsreamz.com, Kubitza, finished the 2011 season with a .310 batting average with 10 home runs. He also walked 54 times — the second highest total in the team’s history.
