Guardian Angels Find KKK Cards At Hampton Bays Train Station; Curtis Sliwa Speaks Out

KKK cards, Curtis Sliwa said, "will empower extremists . . to become bolder . . . and the immigrant community to sink into the shadows."

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Guardian Angels on patrol in Hampton Bays found Klu Klux Klan business cards in multiple locations on Thursday.

According to Guardian Angels' founder Curtis Sliwa, while patroling the Long Island Rail Road Station, the patrol found the business cards "everywhere."

Some of the livery cab drivers parked across the street believed perhaps the cards were directed at those "who might be opposed to all the day laborers and illegals who assemble each day there," Sliwa said.

Reflecting on the KKK literature, Sliwa said, "The Klu Klux Klan will always try to take advantage when there is racial, religious and ethnic tension percolating in communities. The Klan has done this before in Suffolk County."

In this instance, however, Sliwa believes the distribution of the cards is meant to empower "the number of haters that they have and spread fear into the immigrant community taking advantage of the rhetorical climate created by the presidential candidacy of Donald Trump. It will empower the extremists like the Klan to become bolder and it will cause more of the immigrant community to sink into the shadows."

He added, "It is the equivalent of seeing a swastika on a tombstone. It spreads fear and concern."

Recently, East Hampton Town Police pledged to continue to protect all residents after racist literature was found at the railroad station and in Montauk.

When a phone number listed on the cards was called, a recorded message directed callers to its website. "If you are white and proud, join the crowd," the message said. KKK representatives did not immediately return a message requesting comment.
