Hampton Bays Science Students Present at NYSSBA

Students enrolled in Hampton Bays High School’s Science in Research program had the opportunity to showcase their knowledge at the New York State School Boards Association Convention held during the week of Oct. 19 in New York City.

The eight students earned the honor to present findings on topics they researched with the assistance of their science research teacher Dr. Stephanie Forsberg, after a selection process by NYSSBA.

The state fielded applications from schools with programs that promoted innovation, digital literacy and life and career skills.

During the conference, the students presented their research on the effects of the spice turmeric on cancer treatment, college nutrition and eating habits, weather patterns and baboon culture to attendees.

Visitors to their display included school board members, vendors and school administrators from around the state.

“This experience was not only a great opportunity to showcase our science program to schools looking to expand their research programs, but also an opportunity for our students to continue to fine tune their public presentation skills, make connections in a business setting and also to continue discussing and promoting their research,” Superintendent Lars Clemensen said.
