LIRR Train Slams Into Tractor-Trailer
A LIRR signal and crossing protection equipment sustained significant damage in the crash Thursday morning.

QUOGUE, NY — Long Island Rail Road service remains suspended between Montauk and Speonk after a train slammed into a tractor-trailer in Quogue Thursday morning, LIRR officials said.
According to an LIRR spokesperson, the 4:41 a.m. train out of Southampton due at Penn Station at 7:02 a.m. struck the tractor-trailer truck at Old Depot Road.
The driver was not in the truck at the time, and there was only one person onboard the train who was assisted off the train and driven to Speonk by police.

No injuries were reported, but a LIRR signal and crossing protection equipment sustained significant damage.
Quogue Village Police said they were called to the scene at 4:56 a.m. after a report of a disabled vehicle on the railroad tracks; officers saw the driver out of the truck and standing in the road as the LIRR train struck the truck, police said.

The driver was issued a summons by police for driving on a road that is not authorized for trucks, the LIRR spokesperson and Quogue Village Police said.
Service is currently suspended on the Montauk Branch between Montauk and Westhampton after a train struck a vehicle at Old Depot Road grade crossing. Customers are advised to depart from Speonk or take the Ronkonkoma Branch as an alternative.
