Local Fire Departments Help Put Out Fire in Westhampton Beach Home

The Westhampton Beach Fire Department, along with the Quogue and Eastport Fire Departments, worked together to put out the fire.

The Westhampton Beach Fire Department, with help from the Quogue Fire Department and the Eastport Fire Department, put out a fire at a home on Baycrest Avenue on Friday night.

The department received a call of a reported structure fire at 11:45 p.m. where the caller advised dispatch he heard popping noises and smelled smoke, according to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department website.

The incident Commander, Chief John “Chip” Bancroft requested mutual aid from Quogue and Eastport Fire Departments to send an engine as well as Westhampton Ambulance to remain on standby.

The fire appeared to have possibly started in the chimney, which was holding a lot of heat. Crews had to use cement saws, sledge hammers, pry bars to open up the cement wall to get the seat of the fire, according to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department.

After the fire was extinguished, the scene was turned over to the Southampton Town Fire Marshals office for investigating. All units were back in service at 3 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
