Local Teen Seeks Help, Yearns To Save Animals
The 16-year-old hopes to embark upon a program to save animals in Thailand, a dream she's praying will come true.

QUOGUE, NY — A local teen is reaching out for help to fundraise so that she can embark upon an educational program that will help her to save animals in need.
Lily Cooper, 16, has kicked off a GoFundMe page, "Lily's Education Journey," that has raised $170 of its $2,000 goal so far.
"When I was a young girl I was introduced to the world of animals and how much of an impact they can have on our lives. At only 10 years old I started volunteering at a horse rescue named Spirit's Promise," she wrote.

"Volunteering there these past 6 years has taught me many things and has opened my eyes to the field of veterinary medicine. When we first rescue these animals many of them seek medical attention, which is where I first witnessed what an impact a veterinarian's care can have. A special touch, knowledge, and lots of patience can save an animal's life. I have been able to observe surgeries and ask as many questions as I could, trying to get a glimpse of the medical world and soak up as much knowledge as I can," she added.
Next, Lily said she heard about the Loop Abroad Program and was surprised to learn they included high school students who are able to travel, assist in surgeries, save exotic animals, and work alongside veterinarians. Teens not only shadow doctors and learning firsthand, but can also learning about a new culture and different animals, and meet people from around the world, she said.

"When I first submitted my application I was hoping a miracle would happen. Traveling to Thailand, working with animals, and learning more about medicine is as big as I can dream. As of now, it is just that, a dream. With your help my dream can come true. Every penny counts and I cannot do it without you. I thank you all for your support and helping me get this far in following my dreams," she wrote.
