Hampton Bays resident Julianna Roman submitted a photo of her four legged baby in honor of National Mutt Day on Friday.
National Mutt Day, which is celebrated on July 31 and December 2, was created in 2005 by Celebrity Pet Expert and Animal Welfare Advocate, Colleen Paige, according to nationalmuttday.com.
The holiday is all about embracing, saving and celebrating mixed breed dogs.

Check out the story of Roman’s 10-year-old dog, Miles:
“In 2008 my daughter Nikki and I talked about fostering a dog since our household wasn’t ready to adopt a pet at the time. We contacted Last Chance Animal Rescue and signed up as fosters. Within a week LCAR contacted us looking for a foster home. We agreed and made the arrangements to pick up the dog at the airport. When we saw Miles, it was love at first sight for my daughter and I. He was so scared and helpless. He’d been a homeless dog in South Carolina for a while. Needless to say after fostering him for a couple of weeks, we realized that he was perfect for us. We decided to adopt him and make him part of our family. He’s probably grateful for the life we have offered him but in reality we’re the ones in debt with him. He changed our lives for the best! He’s my daughter’s companion, as long as Miles’ is around she’s not afraid. He has also shown us unconditional love, whether it’s raining, snowing or the sun is shining, he’s always at the door wagging his tail happy to see each one of us. We couldn’t imagine our lives without him. I have to admit that we’ve even had competitions on who Miles loves more. He’s the best dog!”
